What is the Idaho City Historic Preservation Commission, Anyway?
If You're in the Historic District, You Need to Know This!
The Idaho City Historic Preservation Commission operates under the City of Idaho City (See Preservation Ordinance below). The commission accepts applications for Certificates of Appropriateness from owners of properties in the Historic District. (See map and address list/data, right.) Any exterior changes, such as putting up a fence, retaining wall, or sign, changing paint or other building features, adding an addition to an existing building, or rehabilitating an historic building, all require a Certificate of Appropriateness before work can begin. Pick up an application from City Hall (View and copy, from link below) and consult the Idaho City Historic Design Guide (See link below) to help design appropriate projects for the District which would fit into an 1860’s western, gold mining town. Applications will be reviewed and voted on at each monthly meeting, at City Hall on the 3rd Thursday at 6:00pm. Meetings are open to the public. Commissioners can help you find other resources to help owners with their projects. The commission also helps owners preserve and rehabilitate their historic buildings, located in the District.
